Cassper Nyovest tips Sarkodie as Ghana’s biggest rapper
One of South Africa’s top rappers Refiloe Maele Phoolo aka Cassper Nyovest, has named Sarkodie as the biggest rapper in Ghana.
The ‘Baby Girl’ hit maker said this in an interview with pulse.com.ng when he was reacting to statement made by Nigerian rapper M.I. that South African hip hop was in the lead in Africa.
According to Cassper, “South African Hip-hop is in the forefront of African Hip-hop in general. It might not be as popular as it is in South Africa in Nigeria. But I know for a fact that the rappers from Nigeria are kinda unknown in SA,” he says. If we talk about crossing over, I know that a lot of people in Nigeria know about my music. I know that in Kenya and Ghana it’s the same thing.”
The rapper who won the Best Hip Hop act award at recently held Soundcity MVP Awards also cited Sarkodie as the biggest rap artiste in Ghana.
“I’m not just talking about me, I’m talking about the movement. Sarkodie is big in Ghana, but are there other rappers who are as big as Sarkodie from Ghana? The South African Hip-hop movement is big across, also in London, New York…we are out there performing in different countries.” He added.
Cassper’s debut album Tsholofelo was released on 18 July 2014. He is currently signed to his own independent label and media company, Family Tree.
On 2nd December, 2017, the 28-year-old set out to more than triple his audience members from his first ‘fill up concert’ by filling up Africa’s largest stadium, the FNB Stadium.
From selling out all the golden circle tickets to bringing in a crowd large enough to literally fill out the stadium – which has a capacity of 75 000 – Cassper did indeed make history.
