Patapaa’s ‘One Corner’ dance breaks into Nigeria
Despite recent criticism about the ‘One Corner’ dance, its fortunes keeps increasing by the day.
The crazy dance which came together with the ‘One Corner’ song by Patapaa, has steadily crept into Nigeria as Mavins’ boss Don Jazzy and his team jam to it.
In an Instagram video posted by Nigerian beat maker, Don Jazzy of the Mavins group, the ‘One Corner’ song plays at the background as some people in the studio including Rekado Banks do the ‘crazy’ ‘One Corner’ dance.
Don Jazzy posted thus: “Soooo this is what you people are doing in the studio when I’m not around. I’m coming. #Repost @reekadobanks The #OneCorner virus hit us while in the studio. We couldn’t resist it @marvtunes @holamii @therealjaybreeze.”
In Ghana public figures like Kwaku Manu, Captain Smart, Funny Face, Emelia Brobbey, ace radio presenter Abeiku Aggrey Santana, Stephanie Benson and Micky Osei-Berko have all joined the ‘One Corner Challenge.’
However, some have read spiritual meanings into the dance. A pastor is reported to have said that the dance is demonic. Gospel artiste Sonnie Badu and broadcasting doyen Kwasi Kyei Darkwah have also condemned the dance.
To cap it all, news broke recently that one person had died in the Central Region from doing the dance.
In the ‘One Corner’ dance, one is seen wiggling their waist and gyrating in gutters, under packed cars, corners of buildings and obscure places.
In the meantime, some Ghanaian showbiz pundits have expressed fear about the sudden fondness of the song by the Nigerians. They think the Nigerians may re-brand the dance and song and claim ownership over if just like they did to ‘Azonto’ dance.
