My ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ visit for Ghana’s benefit – Samira
The wife of the Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana, Samira Bawumia, has explained why she paid the cast of ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ a visit when she went to India.
Samira Bawumia who was in India a few days ago for the International Conference on Women Trafficking in Mumbai, India, has been under criticism after people saw pictures she had taken with the Indian actors.
According to her critics, the visit is a sign of promoting the Indian actors who for some time now have dominated the movie scene in Ghana, a situation some have posited is contributing to the dwindling fortunes of the Ghanaian movie industry.
However, in a post made by Samira on Facebook, she writes that her visit to the ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ actors was to foster a good work relation between Ghana and India in the field of entertainment.
“Meeting with some key members of the Indian Entertainment Industry, exploring possibilities of collaboration to boost the budding movie Industry in Ghana”.
Mrs. Bawumia believes Ghana could leverage on the success of the Indian movie to project the Ghanaian movie industry
Since its introduction on Adom TV over a year ago, ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ movie series has been mauled by critics who believe that giving too much foreign content in the media does not bode well for the entertainment industry and the country at large.
However, ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ aside all the criticism, is one of the most watched television programmes in Ghana at present.
