The Ghana Actors Guild is due for an election on 29th April, 2017 to choose new leaders to fill some vacant positions.

After the demise their President Rev. Eddie Coffie last year, the group holds a by-election to choose a President, Vice – President and Welfare Officer.

Veteran actor Abeiku Sagoe has told citifmonline.com that he will be contesting for the position of the President. According to him, he wishes to give the guild a new look and help improve the welfare of actors.

Information has it that actor Ziggy Netteyson has also expressed interest in occupying the President’s seat.

Even though it has been rumoured that Mikki Osei Berko of Taxi Driver fame who is popularly known as Master Richard or Dada Boat also eyes the same seat, he explains to citifmonline.com that at present, he is not interested in the position. In the interview he noted, “Well, I wish to start off from somewhere first.”

However, Mikki believes Ghana Actors Guild needs a revival and that the only way to make it more attractive and functional is to get the right leaders.

“We need innovative and selfless leaders,” he stated.

Asked who he thinks can best serve as President of the guild, ‘Master Richard’ said he cannot tell.

“Well, only God knows. Humans can predict but God knows better,” he further explained.

Mikki also bemoaned the low publicity on the elections and blamed it on limited resources. However, he hoped that the new administration would turn things around.

Ghana Actors Guild has suffered a lot of hiccups in its administration over the years and for this reason, whoever becomes the President would have a daunting task to execute.
